A New Garden Tick - Goldcrest!

We have been visited for the first time today by a Goldcrest. He or she stayed around the edges of the garden for a couple of minutes, examining the corkscrew hazel and the honeysuckle, before flying back in to the wood. Fingers are crossed for a return visit!

Goldcrest is the 29th species recorded. Not bad for an eight-month-old garden!

what super pictures from a fellow Borderer. Are you reporting on the Big Bird Watch. We in Hutton got a good show-see www.huttonian.blogspot.com but were not sure if it was a Sparrow Hawk or young Merlin which scared off our Goldfinces (at least two most days) Look at the pics of the hawk and see if you can identify it.

Hiya, huttonian. The hawk you ask about... looks like a big brown job to me ;o) Or, if you prefer, a Sparrowhawk (AKA Spawk or Sprawk). Myself and Bird Man were having a good giggle over your blog the other night - excellent reading :)
