Sparrowhawk Wins

It had to happen at some point. Our Sparrowhawk finally managed to catch something in the garden today - a Goldfinch (just as I was counting them!)

Why has it always one of the lesser common birds they catch when there are hundreds of chaffinches out there? :(

Maybe goldfinches are extra tasty to sparrowhawks and that's why there just aren't as many of them. Kind of like the orange cremes in a big container of Quality Street.

ok, less common is maybe not the right description, I just meant that for every Goldfinch I see there must be 20 or more Chaffs! I too have found Goldfinch feathers in the garden when the Sprawk has been active in the area.

no Chaffs here ! perhaps we should arrange a 50% swap !
I was recently fortunate (or should that be unfortunate?) to video a sprawk kill and eat a goldfinch in the garden
