Great Tit Visits Nest Box
First, I discovered i-catcher wasn't recording any motion in our nest box. After changing a few settings I found i-catcher was recording massive blocks of nothingness. And now, finally, I have found a happy compromise - with big thanks to Malcolm over at www.biggonline.co.uk for helping me find where I was going wrong, and how to fix it! I am now recording just motion in the box - which makes things so much easier when trying to find an actual visit!
Following the (unrecorded) visit from a Blue Tit on Monday, the box has now been visited by a Great Tit (I wonder how long these birds have been visiting? lol)
Will we have any takers?
This Great Tit (presumably male, looking for somewhere his mate will like) entered the box soon after 7am this morning.

Nice pictures Emma, hope they start nest building soon. Our blue tits are about all the time but so far there is little if any nest building
You've got great tits Em.
LOL, "anon" (Colleen!).
Thanks for the comments. Hopefully the Blues or Greats will stick around. I've placed some moss near-ish to the nest box to try and tempt them.
Hi, you can sex Great Tits by the black band on the breast. A male has a solid thick black band that stretches right down between its legs even getting broader lower down, whereas a female has a narrow more broken band fading out between the legs. Difficult to see on this one but the middle pic suggests it may be the hen...
Cheers, S...
Hi, BB. That's how I sex them in the garden. I was undecided with this one as there wasn't a clear view of the chest stripe. In shome pics it looked like the female, and in others it look like the male. Either way, it hasn't been back yet!
